Here Piggy, Piggy...

My day started out on the wrong foot as I had tenative plans that fell through finding myself with nothing scheduled for lunch, so I decided to crash SuNny's lunch event at the Oinkster. I guess the Food Network Dive Joints show did a segment on the Oinkster and since then it's been incredibly popular. They've done a great job of marketing and the Yelpers seem to love the joint. So I arrived late and Tina asked me if I was going to order the Pastrami sandwich which was exactly my plan so she wanted to trade for 1/2 of her bbq pulled pork sammie and I agreed.

I wanted to eat my bbq pork sammie while in line to order and Tina dumped the bbq sauce on my sammie... Well, it is a very thin sauce... unusually thin for a bbq sauce and I didn't notice until it was too late that it all ran out of my sammie and onto the front of my shirt.

The pulled pork sammie had the red cabbage slaw and it was not too bad. A very generous amount of meat, but I was hoping for bolder flavor... but then maybe it was because it was on my shirt and not in my belly! I got the combo and a Ellie Brown ale which was tasty and the fries were also good... nothing special but nice prepared and piping hot. They did forget to include my pickle, but the waiter promptly brought me a trio of dill pickle spears upon my request. The pastrami was again one big ole sammie with a very generous amount of tender pastrami which is cured in house... It had an unusual flavor... like clove which is not to say it was bad, but just very unusual but it was okay.

The meat was a bit over cooked as it just disentegrated as I wolfed it down and it had nothing inside except some au jus. I dabbed some mustard sauce SuNny wasn't eating and that improved it for me. I dunno, it was fairly priced at $8.50 but I'd much rather have a Langers pastrami, Greenblatt's or even one from the Hat.

Excellent friendly service at both the counter and table. Good and fun marketing concept and a decent website. Food 3 stars, service 4.5, overall 3.75 but round it up to 4 stars.
