This place is pretty unusual. Our group of 16 from www.asianfoodies.info gathered to check out this place and as was previously written up, the owner basically takes control of your dining experience. I arrived a bit late and saw we had two tables setup for us. The first table was full and they were already eating as the owner brought out some appetizers of tofu, seaweed and green papaya salad where were okay. I sat at the other table and it started filling up as several members got lost trying to find the place. It is located on Las Tunas just West of Santa Anita Blvd.
The owner started bringing us dishes without us saying a word to her and we thought they were freebie dishes, but upon seeing the bill, there's no free lunch peeps. So, I suggest you take control and order what you want to eat. I'd avoid the noodle with tofu or chicken dishes as previously reviewed, they are quite bland. However, the hand pulled noodles are really wonderful. I'd recommend the spicy beef stew with noodles as that broth was quite tasty and it comes with the noodles. Enjoyed the green onion pancakes as well as the beef pancakes which is basically a Taiwanese pancake and your ingredients are rolled up inside. Yummy. The pan fried dumplings were what I came for and they were beautiful to look at and they were delicious as well. No, they cannot compete with Din Tai Fung, but they were delicious and unique as I've never seen dumplings cooked this way before.
We are a noisy group and any meal is a good time with our group so while the food wasn't top tier, we all had a good time sharing a meal together.
It was a riot when we were full and she kept bringing dishes and when we waived her off, she simply gave the dishes to another table without asking them either... LOL This is a unique dining experience and worth a recommendation, but try to avoid the bland noodles that look sorta grayish green. We were lucky that we had to members who could speak Mandarin to the owner.
Yes, I'd definitely go back now that I have a sense of how the place works.
